In IA we celebrate Book Month in style

Books are companions, teachers, magicians, the bankers of the treasures of the mind. Books are humanity in print. (Barbara Tuchman)

Barbara Wertheim Tuchman, an American historian, journalist, and two-time Pulitzer Prize-winning writer, conveys the importance of reading through this quote. At International Aravaca School, our passion for reading has led us toextend our tributes and activities surrounding books for a month. In this way, our students have been able to enjoy specific workshops that our librarian, Paz, has conducted in the library, English activities related to the inquiry units that have allowed us to unleash our imagination using classic tales, creating board games around characters and stories, or even making a rap. Additionally, we have worked on profile attributes and shared them with younger students in the form of sensory theater, representing “We are going on a Bear Hunt” for 5-year-olds and “The Rainbow Fish” for 1st graders.

Our classic Buddy Readers program has once again been received with great excitement, where our students have strengthened bonds with the younger ones and shared very touching moments.

The book fair has been one of the most anticipated moments for students and families. Children have shown great enthusiasm in choosing their books in both Spanish and English with the help and guidance of their teachers.

On April 23rd, Book Day, some characters from the favourite books of the 1st and 2nd Primary students were seen,as they were able to bring their books and come dressed in costume or with accessories representing the main characters of their stories.

On this day, the traditional rhyme prize was held, where all Primary students worked on a text written by themselves and adapted to their age, based on the story “Lorenzo’s Saucepan”. At the end of the year we will know our writing contest winners.

The Early Years has dedicated this month to working on some of the most representative titles of literature, even giving students the opportunity to bring in their favourite stories to share them with their classmates.

Let’s continue celebrating the Book Day together, sowing the seed of imagination and knowledge in young minds. May this special day inspire our little ones to discover the wonderful world of reading, where each page is an adventure and each word a treasure.
