El Escorial

Last Friday, 24th of May, Year 6 visited El Escorial to practice their art skills and do some hiking.

On arrival we went straight to the monastery to start working. It is one of the Spanish royal sites and functions as a monastery, royal palace, museum, and school. The monastery is the work of Philip II aided by Juan Bautista de Toledo. We spent an hour and a half working on our works of art and the students produced some excellent work showing great knowledge of shading and perspective.

After our art work was done it was time for some physical exercise. A good healthy walk to King Phillip’s seat (La silla de Felipe II), a lookout point carved in the rock, from where the King observed the progress of the construction of the Monastery. When we arrived at the top, finally, we were all impressed with the magnificent views. Then there was just time for a picnic before returning to school for the annual Open Day.
