The Frogs Who Wished For A King – an adapted short story by 4º ESO students

On December 17th, 4th ESO (MYP5) students read an adapted version of The Frogs Who Wished for a King to 1st EPO A pupils. The primary learning goal was to improve the ability to adapt difficult texts to make them more engaging and understandable for younger readers while retaining their original core.

Prior to this assignment, students practiced modifying stories for diverse audiences, with a focus on simplifying language, changing themes, and reorganising plotlines. This practice was part of the English curriculum and taught students how to distinguish between different genres of writing—novels, fables, short stories, and articles.

This experience broadened students’ perspectives by asking them to simplify language, topics, and narratives while maintaining the substance of the original work. It promoted creativity, empathy, and a better knowledge of the writing process. The activity also instilled a sense of collaboration and responsibility in the younger kids by engaging them in storytelling. It also improved their critical thinking skills and ability to adapt to varied audiences’ requirements. Such exercises foster confidence, linguistic creativity, and the acquisition of necessary life skills.
