Cultural Fieldtrip to the Palacio de Cibeles: 4th ESO (MYP5) Explores Madrid’s Heritage

Last Friday, January 17th, 4th ESO (MYP5) students participated in an enriching visit to the Palacio de Cibeles, home to the Metropolitan Cultural Center, CentroCentro. The aim of this activity was to appreciate Madrid’s historical and monumental heritage, understand the urban and historical context of the building, and bring students closer to emblematic and significant elements of the city.
During the tour, students explored the original architecture of the Palacio de Cibeles, built in the early 20th century, and learned about its former role as the Palace of Communications. They also delved into the mythological themes that significantly influenced the architecture of that historical period. Additionally, they analyzed the socio-historical context of its construction and its current role as the headquarters of Madrid City Hall.
This experience allowed students to appreciate the artistic elements of the building and discover CentroCentro’s role as a space for gathering, art, and participation. Activities like this enrich learning by contextualizing classroom knowledge and fostering a closer connection with their city, strengthening their sense of belonging and respect for cultural heritage.
An unforgettable day of learning outside the classroom!
