Student anti-bullying awareness
It is essential to raise awareness among students early on about bullying, which affects many educational communities. As part of the Civic and Ethical Values Education subject, second-year ESO students conducted an enriching activity in which they acted out five bullying scenarios for their Primary Education classmates in fifth-year.
Their first step was to deepen their understanding of the different kinds of bullying: verbal aggression, physical aggression, peer exclusion, peer abuse, and cyberbullying. Using illustrations, they created cards depicting real-life school situations.
In addition to visual presentations, the activity encouraged reflection through a question guide designed by ESO second-year students. Participants in the small group presentation answered questions such as:
- Do you identify with any of the people drawn?
- What do you think the bullied person feels?
- Have you ever witnessed such a scenario?
- What can we do to help?
- Who could we turn to if we witness bullying?
This activity allowed the little ones to express their ideas, share experiences, and, above all, reflect on the importance of taking action against any form of bullying.
The activity was a success and provided valuable lessons for all participants. The 2nd year ESO students not only reinforced their commitment to positive school coexistence, but they also managed to pass on their learning to younger generations, promoting an environment of respect and empathy in our school.
Without a doubt, this experience demonstrates that when we work together, we can raise awareness and acceptance of differences and build a safer and more supportive educational community. Especially within the context of an international school that implements the IB program at all stages of education.
